Auburn man charged with grand larceny after Home Depot thefts

AURELIUS — A 54-year-old Auburn man was arrested and charged with felony grand larceny following an investigation into multiple thefts at a Home Depot store, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

Steven M. Confer was taken into custody on March 10 after authorities investigated several larcenies that occurred at the Home Depot located at 1634 Clark Street Road in the Town of Aurelius.

Sheriff Brian Schenck reported that the investigation began on Feb. 21 in collaboration with the Auburn City Police Department.

Deputies determined that Confer had entered the Home Depot and left with various power tools over four separate occasions, with stolen merchandise totaling $3,397.

Confer was charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a felony offense.

He was remanded to the Cayuga County Jail without bail and faces additional charges from the Auburn City Police Department.
