Garden City police arrest four for series of burglaries

GARDEN CITY — Garden City Police detectives have arrested four men in connection with a series of burglaries linked to a South American theft group.

Sergio Rodriguez-Lopez, 36, of Flushing, Adolfo Montes-Gomez, 40, of Garden City, Brandon Montano, 29, of Flushing, and Stephen Montenegro, 42, of Jamestown, were charged with third-degree burglary.

On Dec. 10 at 5:30 p.m., Rodriguez-Lopez and others entered a Brook Street residence, taking assorted jewelry and $1,000 in cash. They were seen fleeing in a 2018 BMW X5 with New Jersey license plates.

On Dec. 18 at 10:14 p.m., Rodriguez-Lopez, Montes-Gomez, and at least one other suspect attempted to enter a Pine Street residence. The house alarm triggered, and the suspects left the scene in a 2020 BMW X1 and a 2018 BMW X5.

On Dec. 20 at 11:23 p.m., Rodriguez-Lopez, Montes-Gomez, Montano, Montenegro, and another suspect forced open a second-floor rear window of a Pine Street residence. They attempted to gain entry and remove property but were seen fleeing in the same vehicles.

The suspects were arrested on Feb. 27 at 9:40 p.m. by Garden City detectives and Nassau County Police Department Major Case Squad detectives, with assistance from the NYPD.
