NEWBURGH — City of Newburgh Police responded to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital at approximately 11:56 a.m. on Feb. 11 for a report of a shooting victim.
Officers located a male victim with serious injuries, having been shot multiple times.
The victim was treated and is in stable condition.
The incident occurred in the area of South Street and Chambers Street where a crime scene was located.
The case was assigned to the City of Newburgh’s Non-Fatal Shooting Team.
A suspect was identified during the investigation, and criminal charges were drafted.
On Feb. 17, Police Officer J. Borden spotted the suspect, 18-year-old Jamir Santana, walking on South Street.
Santana fled on foot but was apprehended near Liberty and Gidney Avenue with assistance from the Non-Fatal Shooting Team.
Santana was charged with felony weapons possession.
Detectives Salazar and Edgar investigated the case, with help from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
