BRIDGEPORT — A Derby man was arrested after a traffic stop Monday evening in Bridgeport led officers to find a firearm with an altered serial number in his vehicle.
Bridgeport police conducted the motor vehicle stop around 7:51 p.m. Feb. 27 near Iranistan Avenue and Laurel Avenue, pulling over a black Chevrolet Camaro with a heavily tinted front windshield.
Officer Fischetti activated his emergency lights and observed the Camaro attempting to quickly back into the driveway of a home on Iranistan Avenue.
Police identified the driver as 27-year-old Nytwan Brown of Derby.
A records check revealed Brown had an outstanding warrant from North Branford.
Brown was taken into custody, and officers performed a search of the vehicle before it was towed.
Police discovered a Taurus .45-caliber firearm under the driver’s seat, noting the serial number appeared highly scratched in an apparent attempt to obscure the weapon’s identification.
Brown was charged with several offenses, including carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal alteration of a firearm identification, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, negligent storage of a firearm, operating a vehicle with excessive tint on the windshield and failure to use a turn signal.
He was held on a $15,000 bond.
