PITTSFIELD — A 16-year-old Pittsfield resident was arrested Tuesday night for possession of a stolen firearm and possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card or license to carry, police said.

Patrol officers and members of the Anti-Crime Unit were conducting enforcement in the downtown area at approximately 7:30 p.m. when a plainclothes officer was shoulder-checked by a juvenile male.

As the juvenile made contact, he gestured as if he had a firearm in his waistband, police said.

The juvenile walked away from the plainclothes officer with another juvenile, and officers confronted them to begin an investigation.

Both juveniles refused to comply, leading to a struggle, police said.

During the encounter, officers recovered a loaded firearm with one round in the chamber from the juvenile who initially made the gesture.

Police determined the firearm had been reported stolen out of Brattleboro in 2022.
