MOHAWK — State Police arrested a Mohawk man on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges Thursday following a domestic dispute in Herkimer County.
Christian M. Callen, 49, was taken into custody after officers responded to a 911 call at about 6:30 a.m. reporting a disturbance at a residence on Hicks Road.
According to investigators, Callen allegedly set fire to the bedroom floor before going outside and ramming multiple vehicles in the driveway with his truck.
Authorities said a preliminary investigation determined that Callen had assaulted and choked a female victim during the altercation.
An elderly witness who attempted to intervene sustained injuries, police said.
People inside the residence were able to extinguish the fire before police arrived, officials said.
Outside, Callen allegedly used his vehicle to ram two other vehicles, causing significant damage.
Callen was transported to Wynn Hospital for a medical evaluation before being taken to the State Police barracks in Herkimer for processing.
He was charged with second-degree arson, second-degree assault, second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree strangulation, third-degree assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Callen was arraigned in the Town of German Flatts Court and remanded to Herkimer County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Warren Court on March 11 at 6 p.m.
