WEEDSPORT — A Geneva man was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop in the village of Weedsport, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Brian Schenck said a deputy on patrol observed a vehicle without a front New York license plate at approximately 11:04 p.m. Feb. 9 and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as Michael R. Costello, 40.

A search of Costello and the vehicle led to the discovery of methylphenidate pills, a Schedule II controlled substance, for which he did not have a prescription, as well as a scale commonly used for weighing illegal substances, Schenck said.

Costello was taken into custody and processed at the Cayuga County Public Safety Building.

He was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

He was also issued traffic tickets.

Costello was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to return to the Village of Weedsport Court at 7 p.m. Feb. 24.
