Greenwich police rescue elderly man from icy waters of Cos Cob Harbor

GREENWICH — An elderly man was rescued from the frigid waters of Cos Cob Harbor on the afternoon of Feb. 22 after police and yacht club staff members pulled him to safety.

Greenwich police said they received an urgent dispatch around 2:31 p.m. reporting a man struggling in the water near the navigation channel off 102 Club Road.

When officers arrived, they found the man in distress as Riverside Yacht Club staff members attempted to help him.

Despite 35-degree waters, officers and staff successfully pulled the man onto land and provided critical medical aid.

Police commended Patrol Officers M. Swift, Caldwell and Pascale for their actions, stating their teamwork and determination ensured the rescue’s success.

Authorities did not immediately release the identity or condition of the man.
