SEARSPORT — Maine State Police recovered a stolen camper and two sheds during an investigation Saturday and arrested a man on theft charges.

Cpl. Quintero and Trooper Maloon interviewed Craig Thomas at his residence on Skinner Pit Road while investigating a stolen camper.

Behind Thomas’ home, police located a Hampton Crossroads Trailer valued at approximately $18,000.

Authorities identified the camper as one reported stolen in 2024.

Police also found two sheds at the residence.

One was valued at approximately $8,000, and the other was worth about $3,000.

Thomas admitted to using heavy equipment from his employer at Skinner Pit to steal the sheds during a snowstorm, police said.

The owners of Skinner Pit are not implicated in the theft.

Thomas told police he moved the camper behind his home several months ago after encountering someone on the property and purchasing it for $1,600.

When interviewed by police, the person Thomas claimed to have bought the camper from stated they had never met or heard of Thomas.

Thomas was booked into Waldo County Jail on outstanding warrants for home repair fraud.

He was also charged with Class B theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and two additional counts of Class B theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.

Authorities said the camper contained a mounted black bear at the time of the theft, which has not yet been recovered.

Anyone with information regarding the stolen bear mount is asked to contact Cpl. Quintero at 207-624-7076.
