LONG BEACH — The Long Beach Fire Department responded to a house fire on East Walnut Street at 8:43 p.m. Sunday, finding smoke emanating from the home.
Firefighters determined that the fire began in a first-floor laundry room and extended to the second floor and attic.
Three hose lines were stretched into the building for an interior attack.
At one point, all firefighters were evacuated from the structure, and crews executed a quick exterior attack to knock down the flames.
Interior lines were then reactivated to extinguish the remaining fire.
Firefighters conducted an extensive overhaul to check for fire extension and extinguish any remaining hot spots.
A feline was rescued from the home.
The fire was brought under control at 9:57 p.m.
No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal and the Nassau County Police Arson/Bomb Squad.
Officials do not believe the fire is suspicious.
