SPRINGFIELD — Springfield police officers seized a stolen firearm and arrested a man Saturday night following a hit-and-run crash.
Officers responded around 6 p.m. to the 100 block of Orchard Street for a property damage crash.
A vehicle had struck a fence and then backed into an unoccupied car.
Police later received information on the location of the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on the 0-100 block of Carew Street.
The driver, identified as 37-year-old Napoleon Simpson of Springfield, did not have a license, registration or insurance, police said.
Officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded firearm that had been reported stolen out of Vermont, along with pieces of the car’s front bumper inside the trunk.
Simpson was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.
