CICERO — Cicero police arrested a man and seized a large number of firearms, ammunition and high-capacity magazines following a search of his vehicle and residence, authorities said.
Chief Steve Rotunno said officers were dispatched Feb. 15 to Finish Line Trail, where they found a vehicle disabled in a snowbank.
The driver, George M. Leroy of Cicero, was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
During a search of Leroy, officers found a loaded and illegally possessed Glock handgun along with high-capacity magazines, police said.
On Feb. 20, Cicero police detectives executed a search warrant on Leroy’s vehicle and found an additional loaded assault rifle and 12 more high-capacity magazines.
Later that evening, Cicero police and the New York State Police Community Stabilization Unit executed a second search warrant at Leroy’s Cicero residence, where he rents a room.
Authorities discovered a large number of illegally possessed firearms, silencers, 80 high-capacity magazines and other illegal weapons, police said.
Leroy turned himself in to Cicero police on Feb. 24 and was charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor weapons offenses, including criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, Rotunno said.
Leroy was processed at the Cicero Police Department and transported to the Onondaga County Centralized Arraignment Court for arraignment.
