West Seneca police investigate multiple thefts, fraud cases

WEST SENECA — Police responded to multiple incidents of theft, fraud, and burglary from Feb. 9 through Feb. 15, according to the latest blotter report from the West Seneca Police Department.

Employees at the Country Inn & Suites reported that guests who had recently stayed in one of the hotel rooms caused damage and left suspected drug paraphernalia behind.

The suspects, a male and female from the Cassadaga area, have been identified.

No charges have been filed, and the investigation remains open.

A 32-year-old man is facing potential criminal trespass charges after being caught on surveillance video entering Wegmans in violation of a previously-served trespass notice.

He had been banned from the store due to alleged prior thefts.

The suspect’s presence was only discovered when footage was reviewed days later, and he has not yet been located.

An unidentified man stole nearly $200 worth of merchandise from Aldi on Harlem Road.

Among the stolen items were deodorant and soup cans, which he concealed beneath his coat.

He fled in a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Nissan, with an unknown getaway driver.

Detectives are reviewing store surveillance footage to identify and locate those involved.

Two Collins Avenue residents reported their checks were stolen from a mailbox at the Tops plaza on Harlem Road and subsequently altered in an attempt to be fraudulently cashed.

Their bank stopped payment on both checks, and the victims sustained no financial loss.

A 31-year-old man is facing potential charges after he and an unknown accomplice allegedly stole more than $100 worth of Red Bull from Aldi on Harlem Road.

The theft was captured on surveillance footage.

Officers were initially informed that the suspects were parked in a dark SUV in the Tops plaza area, but upon arrival, police found no sign of the vehicle.

A 32-year-old Cheektowaga man was arrested after allegedly breaking into a Center Road residence and stealing the victim’s phone, keys, credit cards, and vehicle.

He also allegedly attempted to drag the victim out of the house before being chased away.

Cheektowaga police located him the next day, still in possession of the stolen property.

He was charged with multiple felonies, including burglary and grand larceny, and was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center.

A 55-year-old Lackawanna man fled a traffic stop after repeatedly providing officers with false identification.

He was initially pulled over around 3:30 a.m. for failing to stop at a stop sign and not signaling a turn.

A brief pursuit was called off when the suspect fled into the City of Buffalo.

Further investigation revealed he was on parole with a revoked license.

Pending charges include criminal impersonation, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, and multiple vehicle and traffic offenses.

Two unidentified women shoplifted approximately $135 worth of merchandise, including Tide Pods and socks, from the Dollar General on Seneca Street.

Later that evening, they allegedly stole additional items from another Dollar General location in the Seneca Ridge Plaza.

Both times, they fled the scene in a silver Jeep Compass.

Efforts to identify them are ongoing.

A 25-year-old Orchard Park man was charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing his vehicle into a tree on Seneca Creek Road just after 2 a.m.

The crash was reported by the vehicle’s OnStar system.

The driver, who admitted to consuming alcohol and not wearing a seat belt, sustained head trauma and a broken hand.

A blood draw was conducted at the hospital to determine his blood alcohol content, and he was issued tickets for DWI and multiple traffic infractions.

A 40-year-old West Seneca man was arrested for burglary after allegedly stealing his landlord’s vehicle.

The victim arrived home to find his car missing and later discovered that the spare key was gone.

The suspect returned shortly after in the vehicle, handed back the keys, and asked the victim not to call the police.

He was later found hiding in a closet and was charged with burglary and grand larceny.

A 35-year-old West Seneca man was arrested for driving while intoxicated following a traffic stop on Clinton Street around 2:20 a.m.

He was pulled over for speeding and showed signs of impairment.

He failed sobriety tests and registered a .14% blood alcohol content on a preliminary breath test.

Further investigation led to an additional charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance after a scale with white powder residue was found in his vehicle.

A Greenbranch Road resident reported receiving death threats via text message while attempting to sell a printer online.

The suspect initially sent a fraudulent check for over $2,000 instead of the agreed-upon $300 price, instructing the victim to use the excess funds to pay movers.

When the victim confronted the suspect, the suspect allegedly responded with a threat.

Police are continuing the investigation.
