Canton police warn residents of phone scam

1 min read

CANTON — The Canton Police Department has issued a warning about a phone scam in which a caller falsely claims to be a department representative.

According to police, the scammer appears to use a Canton-based phone number and tells residents they have an outstanding arrest warrant for missing jury duty.

The caller then demands a monetary payment to resolve the issue.

Authorities emphasized that the department never contacts individuals to request payments, cryptocurrency, gift cards, vouchers, or any other form of financial compensation for fines or warrants.

Police urge residents who receive such calls not to provide personal or banking information.

Anyone who encounters the scam should hang up immediately and report the incident to the Canton Police Department.
