SPRING VALLEY — On Thursday, Feb. 13, at about 7:30 a.m., the Spring Valley Police Department responded to 22 Memorial Park Drive for a report of a fire.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an active structure fire with heavy smoke in the new construction at that address.

The Spring Valley Fire Department responded promptly and extinguished the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

On Feb. 17, after a comprehensive investigation, police arrested 18-year-old Spring Valley resident Carlos De Leon Cordero for setting the fire.

Cordero was charged with arson in the fourth degree, arraigned before Judge Sweet, and released on his own recognizance.

This arrest marks the second time Cordero has been charged with arson in less than a month.

He was previously arrested in January for setting a fire in an abandoned building at 103 North Madison Avenue, just a few blocks from the Memorial Park Drive location.
