JOHNSTOWN — The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to residents about a phone scam involving fraudulent calls.
Authorities said they have received complaints about unknown individuals spoofing the sheriff’s office’s phone number and falsely claiming the recipient has an arrest warrant.
The scammers instruct victims to purchase Apple gift cards to pay a fee to avoid arrest.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that it does not call individuals requesting payment via gift cards to resolve warrants.
Residents are urged to hang up immediately if they receive such a call and report it to local law enforcement.
