GERMAN FLATTS — State Police responded to a personal injury accident on Interstate 90 westbound at mile marker 219.3 at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Feb. 20.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 Ford F150 pickup truck, operated by Stephen J. Smith, 55, of Herkimer, N.Y., was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of I-90 when it struck a 2025 Peterbilt tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer was operated by Mark Young, 46, of Boonville, N.Y., who was traveling westbound at the time of the collision.
Stephen J. Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Theodore E. Smith, 76, of Herkimer, N.Y., a front-seat passenger and father of Stephen, sustained minor injuries.
Mark Young, the operator of the tractor-trailer, was uninjured in the crash.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
