NORTH BERWICK — Police arrested a 23-year-old man Tuesday after a six-hour standoff at a residence on Shana Lane that began when officers responded to a reported violation of a protective order.
North Berwick police arrived at the scene at approximately 10 a.m. after receiving reports that the suspect, Adian Scott, had fired a weapon.
As officers approached the residence, multiple gunshots were fired in their direction, prompting them to take cover and await additional law enforcement resources.
The Southern Maine Special Response Team and Cumberland County Emergency Services responded to assist, surrounding the residence.
Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Scott, charging him with violation of a protective order, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, and creating a police standoff.
Negotiators worked for six hours with Scott and his mother, Churi Scott, 45, to persuade them to exit the residence.
After unsuccessful attempts, authorities deployed CS and OC gas into the home.
Churi Scott exited and was taken into custody, facing charges of creating a police standoff and hindering apprehension or prosecution.
Approximately one hour later, Adian Scott surrendered and was arrested without further incident.
North Berwick police expressed gratitude to multiple agencies for their assistance, including North Berwick Fire and Rescue, the Southern Maine Special Response Team, Cumberland County Emergency Services, Berwick Police, South Berwick Police, Eliot Police, Sanford Police, the Maine State Police, York County Emergency Management Agency, and the Sanford Regional Communications Center.
The incident concluded peacefully with no injuries reported.
