ADDISON — New York State Police responded to a domestic incident at a residence on Sprague Road in the town of Addison at approximately 9:03 p.m. on Feb. 16.
Troopers spoke with the caller, Samuel K. Byler, 33, who reported that the victim refused to leave his residence.
Byler granted troopers permission to enter the home, where they located the victim.
During the investigation, authorities alleged that earlier in the day, Byler had pointed a sawed-off shotgun at the victim and would not let the victim leave the residence.
Troopers found a break-action shotgun with an approximately 18-inch barrel behind the residence. The firearm was recovered.
Byler was taken into custody and charged with first-degree criminal contempt, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree menacing and second-degree unlawful imprisonment.
Byler was processed at SP Painted Post before being transported to the Steuben County Jail. He was scheduled for CAP arraignment at 8 a.m. on Feb. 17.
