LONG BEACH — At 10:07 p.m. last night, the Long Beach Fire Department received a report of a building fire at 1042 W. Beech St.
Chief Reinhard and Tower Ladder 2372 arrived on scene within three minutes and found heavy smoke coming from a ground-floor restaurant.
Firefighters located a partially extinguished fire in a front storage room.
The crew of Engine 2343 stretched a hose line into the restaurant while the truck company checked for fire extension.
A smoke condition was observed in the apartments above the restaurant at 51 Georgia Ave.
Residents were evacuated for safety while members of Engine 2344 and Ladder 2362 checked for fire extension.
A fan was placed to ventilate residual smoke.
The fire was contained to the storage room, and no injuries were reported.
The Office of the Fire Marshal for Nassau County and the Long Beach Police Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
The Nassau County Health Department was notified due to the fire occurring in a restaurant.
Units on scene included Ambulance 2319, Engine 2343, Engine 2344, Engine 2342, Tower Ladder 2372, and Ladder 2362.
The Oceanside Fire Department, Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, and Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department provided standby coverage at Long Beach Fire Headquarters with an ambulance, engine, and ladder truck.
