Endicott man charged with illegal cigarette sales after task force raid

ENDICOTT — An Endicott man is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into illegal cigarette sales in the Village of Endicott by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force.

On Feb. 14, the Broome County SIU executed a search warrant at Crown Fried Chicken, located at 1200 North St. in Endicott.

During the search, authorities seized 3,204 packs of untaxed cigarettes, $1,936 in U.S. currency, $2 in Canadian currency, and seven bottles of Viagra.

As a result, Jamshaid Ahmad, 69, was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal tax fraud, a class D felony; possession or transport for sale of unstamped or unlawfully stamped cigarettes, a class E felony; fifth-degree criminal tax fraud, a class A misdemeanor; and misdemeanor possession or transport for sale of unstamped or unlawfully stamped cigarettes.

Officials said the seized cigarettes represent approximately $17,141.40 in evaded New York state taxes.

The Endicott Police Department assisted the Broome County SIU in the operation.

The task force is comprised of members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, the Binghamton Police Department, and the Johnson City Police Department.
