HOLDEN — A domestic assault incident led to the arrest of a local man Sunday morning after a woman was reportedly dragged from a pickup truck and assaulted.

The Holden Police Department responded to the area of Mann Hill and Kidder Hill Roads at approximately 8:50 a.m. after receiving a report of the assault.

A witness stated they observed a female being forcibly removed from the passenger side of a pickup truck, her phone thrown, and then struck multiple times by the male driver.

The suspect, identified as Merrill Muncey III, 39, of Holden, fled the scene in the pickup truck, while the female victim left on foot.

Officers later located the woman, who was not named as she is the victim of domestic assault. She was arrested for felony violation of conditional release.

Muncey, whose right to operate a motor vehicle in Maine is revoked due to prior convictions for manslaughter and operating under the influence, was located by police and taken into custody without incident.

He is currently on probation for manslaughter and was out on three sets of bail conditions at the time of the incident.

Muncey faces charges of operating after revocation (felony), domestic violence assault, and three counts of violation of conditions of release, all misdemeanors.

He remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
