6 medical assistants graduate from North Country Hospital program

NEWPORT –– Friday, February 7 was a big day at North Country Hospital for six Medical Assistants who graduated from a 25 session, intensive educational training.

Four of the graduates are working in North Country Primary Care – Newport, and they include Sara Broe, Sophia Doyen, Raeleen McManus, and Alysa Berry.

Heather Chase and Kelsie Choquette are working in North Country OB/GYN, all employed as Medical Assistants.

Each session covered regular fulltime workday hours, and the program consisted of four key domains: Foundation of Medical Assisting, Medical Terminology, Pharmacology for Medical Assistants, and Clinical Skills.

Clinical Nurse Educator, Michelle Charest, RN, taught content on body systems, role of a medical assistant, health care settings, communication, ethical considerations, workplace professional-ism, healthcare team, medical terminology, pharmacology for medical assistants, along with a big emphasis on compassionate delivery of care.

The class worked on Basic Life Support Certification and Stop the Bleed Certification as well as clinical skills that involved using medical equipment, such as an EKG machine and bladder scanner, administering injections, emergency treatment, and taking vital signs.
