MEXICO — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of Feb. 15 at a parking lot.
At approximately 2:54 a.m., Troopers responded to a 911 call reporting an altercation at the Tops parking lot located at 3385 Main Street.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a suspect, who arrived in a dark-colored Chevrolet pickup truck, exited his vehicle and engaged in a physical altercation with the victim.
During the altercation, the suspect shot and killed the victim.
The suspect, identified as Zachary W. Chilson, 31, of Mexico, was arrested the same day and charged with Murder 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree.
Chilson was remanded to the Oswego County Jail pending arraignment in CAP Court.
He was arraigned on Feb. 16 and remains in custody without bail.
The victim has been tentatively identified as Jacob Walsh, 32, of Mexico.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
In a separate incident, at approximately 6:04 a.m. on Feb. 15, Troopers received a report of a stolen vehicle in the same area.
Investigators later located another stolen vehicle and the suspect in Ogdensburg.
Kevin A. Doxtater, 32, of Oswego, was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd degree.
Investigators have determined that the stolen vehicles and Doxtater’s actions were not related to the homicide investigation.
Doxtater was remanded to the Oswego County Jail and arraigned in CAP Court on Feb. 16.
The investigation remains ongoing.
