VALLEY STREAM — At 2:13 a.m. on Jan. 15, the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a pole on fire at the dead end of East Chester off Emerson Place.
Firefighters arrived to find the pole engulfed in flames but were unable to immediately extinguish the fire due to live transmission lines.
PSE&G was called to the scene to shut off power to the lines.
Once the power was removed, firefighters used one hose line from Engine 342 to extinguish the fire.
The incident lasted approximately two hours.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
