Pelham police warn residents of text scam posing as USPS

1 min read

PELHAM — The Pelham Police Department is warning residents about a text message phishing scam that appears to originate from the U.S. Postal Service.

The scam involves a text message claiming that a package cannot be delivered due to an incomplete address.

The message includes a PDF file and directs recipients to open it to update their address.

Once opened, the PDF contains a button that redirects users to a fake USPS website.

The site prompts users to enter personal information, including their address and credit card number, under the guise of rescheduling delivery.

Authorities emphasize that the package does not exist and the website is controlled by cybercriminals.

Any information entered on the site can be stolen immediately.

Residents are advised to avoid replying to unsolicited text messages, even to unsubscribe.

Suspicious messages should be deleted or reported.

For questions about package delivery, contact the local post office directly.
