WORCESTER — Officers with the Worcester Police Department’s Crime Gun Intelligence Unit arrested a man for carrying a firearm without a license following a traffic stop on Feb. 12.
At approximately 7 p.m., detectives observed a vehicle speeding on Vernon Street and conducted a stop on Winthrop Street.
During the stop, officers noticed one male, later identified as 22-year-old Steven Carter of Douglas, breathing heavily, while another occupant appeared to be concealing an item.
Out of concern for their safety, detectives ordered all occupants to exit the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle, conducted by CGIU detectives and the Gang Unit, led to the recovery of a firearm.
Carter admitted the firearm belonged to him and confirmed he did not possess a valid license to carry.
He was arrested and charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card.
The driver of the vehicle was informed she would receive a written warning in the mail.
She and the other occupants were released without further charges.
The Crime Scene Unit processed the firearm safely.
