Standoff in Norwalk leads to domestic violence arrest

NORWALK — On Feb. 10 at 9:19 a.m., Norwalk Combined Dispatch received a complaint of a disturbance at 16 Sable Street.

Patrol officers responded to the scene and interviewed a female victim who stated she was assaulted by Deval Pendergrast.

The victim reported that Pendergrast threw her down a flight of stairs and struck her in the head with a dumbbell.

She was able to exit the home after the assault and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Pendergrast barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to exit.

The Emergency Services Unit responded, and Crisis Negotiators attempted to make contact with him to encourage a voluntary surrender.

While negotiators continued their efforts, Norwalk detectives applied for an arrest warrant for Pendergrast from Stamford Superior Court.

Detectives secured the warrant, and members of the Emergency Services Unit arrested Pendergrast inside his residence at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Arrested: Deval Pendergrast, 34, of 16 Sable Street, Norwalk.
Charges: Assault in the Second Degree, Violation of a Protective Order, Unlawful Restraint in the Second Degree, and Disorderly Conduct.
Bond: $150,000.
Court: Feb. 11.
