CLAREMONT — On Feb. 11 at approximately 12:56 p.m., the Claremont Police Department was notified by Stevens High School staff of students believed to be armed with a handgun.

The school was placed on lockdown, and other Claremont schools were secured as a precaution.

Claremont Police officers, along with multiple law enforcement agencies, responded to the school and conducted a thorough search of the building.

During the search, officers located four juveniles involved in the incident.

The individuals, all minors, were taken into custody, and a fake firearm was recovered.

Due to their ages, their identities will not be released.

After a room-by-room search by law enforcement, the lockdown was lifted.

School staff provided a debriefing for students and staff before they were released for the day.

The Claremont Police Department was assisted by the Charlestown Police Department, Claremont Fire Department, Cornish Police Department, Golden Cross Ambulance, Inc., New Hampshire State Police, Newport Police Department, Plainfield Police Department, and Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.

The Claremont Police Department and the Claremont School District are collaborating on the investigation.
