BOSTON — At about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Daniel Encarnacion, 20, of Dorchester, on drug trafficking charges following a traffic stop.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Millet Street when they observed a motor vehicle operating without its headlights on.

Officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

Officers spoke with the occupants of the vehicle and they could not answer basic questions.

After further investigation, officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle.

As officers attempted to conduct a pat frisk of the rear passenger, he began to actively push officers’ hands away from him.

Officers attempted to place the suspect into handcuffs, and he continued to resist.

Officers were safely able to handcuff the suspect and search him as incident to arrest, recovering a large quantity of narcotics packaged for street-level distribution.

The drugs recovered were later determined to be approximately 22 plastic bags for a total of 26.3 grams of heroin and 23 plastic bags for a total of 14.6 grams of crack cocaine.

Officers also seized $6,298 in U.S. currency.

Encarnacion was placed under arrest and charged with trafficking of heroin and distribution of a Class B substance.

He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
