BRIDGEPORT — A man wanted for a 2009 murder in Bridgeport was extradited from Spain and returned to the United States on Thursday, according to the Bridgeport Police Department.
Marques Wanderson, 46, was taken into custody by the Spanish National Police in August 2024, 15 years after he allegedly shot and killed Harold Gantt, 49, at an apartment complex on Madison Avenue.
Police responded to reports of shots fired at the complex on Aug. 2, 2009, at approximately 11:30 p.m. and found Gantt suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe Wanderson and Gantt, who both resided in the same complex, had an ongoing verbal disagreement that led to the shooting.
Wanderson fled the United States shortly after the incident, traveling to several different countries.
An arrest warrant was obtained for Wanderson on Aug. 5, 2009, charging him with murder.
The U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force took custody of Wanderson at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York on Thursday afternoon and transported him to the Bridgeport Police Department.
Wanderson is being held on a $5 million bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at Bridgeport Superior Court on Friday morning.
