St. Johnsbury man charged with criminal threatening at local store

ST. JOHNSBURY — St. Johnsbury Police Department officers apprehended 35-year-old Benjamin Heath on the afternoon of Feb. 3 after he allegedly threatened to shoot staff at the Jiffy Mart on Railroad Street.

Lester Cleary reported that the incident occurred at 3:03 p.m. when Heath purportedly made the threats, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.

Following a brief investigation, Heath was located and detained at a residence on Pearl Street.

Heath, a resident of St. Johnsbury, faces three counts of criminal threatening.

He was lodged on a $200 bail and arraigned the following day.

The court held Heath on bail at Caledonia Superior Court.

The police department has not released further details regarding the incident as the case continues to be under investigation.

Heath remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
