PORTLAND — A Thomaston man entered a guilty plea in U.S. District Court in Portland today to charges of unlawfully possessing a machinegun and possessing controlled substances with the intent to distribute.

According to court documents, Chandler Breen, 34, came under investigation after the Thomaston Police Department received a tip in April that he was dealing drugs behind a local establishment.

A subsequent search of Breen’s vehicle uncovered a firearm outfitted with a machinegun conversion device and a 50-round magazine, along with 9mm ammunition, a large sum of money, around 62 grams of cocaine, roughly 5 grams of methamphetamine, and at least 6 grams of fentanyl.

Breen is facing a maximum of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release for the firearms violation.

The drug charge carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison, a $1 million fine, and a minimum of three years of supervised release.

Sentencing will be determined by a federal district judge who will consider the U.S.

Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The case was investigated collaboratively by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Thomaston Police Department.
