Windsor police issue warning about Medicare phone scam

1 min read

WINDSOR — The Windsor Police Department is alerting the public to a telephone scam targeting residents in the area, where fraudsters impersonate hospital representatives to illicitly obtain personal information such as Medicare numbers and health insurance details.

The scammers, who may claim to be from Medicare or a local hospital, are reportedly calling individuals unexpectedly and requesting sensitive information.

The police department emphasizes that legitimate Medicare representatives and hospitals would never initiate such calls.

Authorities advise that if you receive a suspicious call, you should hang up immediately without providing any personal information.

To verify the legitimacy of the call, contact the hospital directly using a known and trusted number, not one provided by the caller.

Residents who have received such calls are encouraged to report them to the Vermont Attorney General’s Fraud division to help prevent further incidents.

The police department urges the community to remain vigilant and protect their personal information from such fraudulent activities.
