Two-car crash on US Route 7 leaves vehicles totaled

POWNAL — A two-car collision on US Route 7 led to both vehicles being totaled on Jan. 30, but resulted in no injuries, according to Vermont State Police.

The accident occurred when a 2019 Ford Escape, operated by Crystal Mahar, 34, of Pownal, struck the rear of a 2010 Honda Accord, which was stopped to make a left turn into a business.

Mahar, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was traveling at approximately 45 mph and failed to notice the stopped vehicle ahead, driven by Beri Grimmer, 42, from Hoosick Falls, New York.

Grimmer was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

The crash was reported at 9:23 a.m. under clear skies and dry road conditions.

Emergency responders from Pownal Rescue Squad attended the scene along with Vermont State Police.

Both damaged vehicles required towing by Southern Vermont Auto.

Authorities have not reported any hospitalizations following the incident, and both drivers escaped physical harm.
