St. Johnsbury woman faces assault, cocaine possession charges

ST. JOHNSBURY — A local woman was arrested on assault and drug charges late Thursday evening after police responded to a disturbance call.

At 10:38 p.m. on Jan. 30, officers from the St. Johnsbury Police Department were dispatched to a residence at 48 Eastern Avenue following reports of an assault.

Upon arrival, police apprehended 53-year-old Jessica P. Ryan after an investigation at the scene.

During the arrest, Ryan attempted to discard a plastic bag containing a white substance resembling rock cocaine.

Subsequent testing confirmed the presence of cocaine base, with an amount exceeding 2.5 grams.

Alongside the assault allegation, Ryan now faces charges of felony cocaine possession and is further classified as a habitual offender due to prior convictions.

Ryan, a resident of St. Johnsbury, was cited to appear in Caledonia Court on March 24 at 8:30 a.m. to respond to the charges.

She was not lodged in jail and is currently not held on bail.
