SHREWSBURY — A routine traffic stop on Boston Turnpike led to the arrest of a 47-year-old Ashland man for drug trafficking early Thursday morning, Shrewsbury Police Department officials said.
At about 1:24 a.m., Officer Juaire initiated a stop on a gray 2011 Ford Taurus westbound at the Burns Bridge at Lake Quinsigamond.
The vehicle was slow to stop, and the driver, later identified as James Fougere, appeared to be reaching around inside the vehicle as it continued to move.
Upon arrival to assist, Officer Belgou noticed drug paraphernalia inside the car.
Further investigation by the officers revealed over 27 grams of crack cocaine and a small amount of heroin.
Fougere faces charges including trafficking a Class B substance, possession of a Class A substance, and multiple civil motor vehicle infractions.
Officer Carroll and Sergeant Abbascia also provided assistance during the incident.
Fougere was taken into custody and is expected to face charges in court.
