Roxbury traffic stop leads to recovery of stolen firearm, arrest

1 min read

BOSTON — A routine traffic stop in Roxbury by the Boston Police Department’s Youth Violence Strike Force on Jan. 30 led to the recovery of a stolen firearm and the arrest of a 32-year-old man on multiple weapons-related charges.

The stop occurred around 6:30 p.m. near 149 Dewitt Drive, just blocks away from an earlier ShotSpotter activation — a system that detects gunfire.

Officers were drawn to a vehicle with a suspended registration and initiated a traffic stop upon verifying the vehicle’s status.

Kasheiph Bonner, a Roxbury resident, exhibited suspicious behavior during the stop, prompting a further investigation by officers.

A pat frisk and search of his fanny pack uncovered a loaded Glock 9mm handgun, confirmed stolen from Revere in October 2024.

Bonner was taken into custody and is set to face arraignment in Roxbury District Court on charges including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The driver of the vehicle received a citation for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Further details on the court proceedings are pending.
