READING — A Lynn man was arrested and is facing multiple charges including operating under the influence after Reading Police responded to a call about a van that struck a mailbox on Beaver Road late Tuesday night.
Kevin Macario, 25, of Lynn, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle after suspension of license, possession of alcoholic beverages in motor vehicle, malicious destruction of property, and leaving the scene of property damage.
Authorities were alerted to the incident on Jan. 28 at approximately 10:56 p.m. Reports indicated a white van had collided with a mailbox and was idling.
An updated report soon followed that the van seemed to be leaving the area.
Officers located the van, which had damage indicative of a recent crash, and performed a motor vehicle stop.
Upon interacting with the driver, identified as Macario, a strong smell of alcohol was noticed by the officers.
Further investigation revealed Macario was driving with a suspended license.
During a field sobriety test, he became argumentative with officers and was subsequently arrested without further incident.
The booking process at the police station was interrupted as Macario became belligerent and uncooperative, leading to his placement in a holding cell.
While detained, Macario damaged the cell and urinated on the floor.
A search of Macario’s vehicle unearthed an open bottle of brandy, a bottle of whiskey, and a cup presumed to contain alcohol in the cup holder.
Macario was arraigned at Woburn District Court the following day, Jan. 29.
