BOSTON — A routine traffic stop by Boston police in East Boston on Wednesday evening turned into a firearm and drug bust, resulting in the arrest of a 23-year-old Saugus man.
At approximately 6:29 p.m., officers from District A-7 conducted a stop at 208 Faywood Avenue after noticing a vehicle failing to signal at the intersection of Vallar Road and Faywood Avenue.
The officers detected a strong odor of unburned marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
A visible large plastic freezer bag of marijuana exceeding the legal possession limit prompted a further search.
Police discovered four additional large freezer bags of marijuana, a scale, Ziploc bags, and parchment paper, items typically used for drug distribution.
During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers found a loaded .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver with five live rounds hidden beneath the driver’s seat.
The driver, identified as William Henderson, was taken into custody and transported to Nashua Street Jail.
Henderson is expected to face multiple charges at his arraignment in East Boston District Court, including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of marijuana over the legal limit, intent to distribute a Class D substance, and failure to signal.
