Three injured in Falmouth multi-vehicle crash

FALMOUTH — A multi-vehicle accident on Waquoit Highway resulted in three injuries on Jan. 28 at around 7:17 p.m., according to the Falmouth Police Department.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene just north of Collins Road to find that the collision involved three vehicles with several occupants injured.

Among the injured, one driver suffered a severe compound fracture to the lower leg, leading an officer to apply a tourniquet before Falmouth Fire and Rescue services arrived.

Two adults with serious injuries were transported to an off-Cape trauma center for treatment, while a juvenile was airlifted to Boston Children’s Hospital due to the critical nature of their injuries.

The accident prompted a closure of the highway for about five hours as the police and emergency crews attended to the victims, carried out an investigation, and cleared the wreckage.

Assistance was provided by the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council’s Accident Reconstruction Team and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations.

Initial findings from the investigation suggest that the driver responsible for the accident veered across the median, sideswiping one car before crashing head-on with another.

This driver has been charged with Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Marked Lanes Violation and is expected to appear in court.

Another driver involved in the crash was cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended license and also faces a court summons.

The Department of Public Works was called to manage the cleanup of debris and fluids on the highway, which was reopened following their efforts.
