STAMFORD — The Stamford Police Department announced the arrest of two men in connection with a series of armed robberies that occurred in the early morning hours of Jan. 26.

Patrol officers responded to three separate reports of robberies in the downtown, westside, and eastside areas of the city.

According to victims, two young males—one black and one Hispanic—were seen operating a Honda Civic at the time of the crimes.

In one incident, a firearm was brandished, but no injuries were reported.

The Major Crimes Unit took charge of the investigation, quickly identifying the vehicle and tracing its movements through city surveillance and tracking methods.

The vehicle’s registered address in Stamford led to the execution of a search warrant, where police recovered items from the robberies.

Matthew Tortorici, 21, and Michael Cuevas, 23, both Stamford residents, were identified as the suspects.

Tortorici was arrested at his home on Jan. 26 without incident and charged with first-degree robbery, conspiracy, second-degree assault, and conspiracy.

His bond was set at $250,000.

Cuevas was apprehended on Jan. 27 at his workplace by detectives with assistance from the Adult Probation, Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit.

A semi-automatic ghost gun was recovered during his arrest.

Cuevas, who confessed to having the weapon during the robberies, faces charges including first-degree robbery, conspiracy, first-degree assault, conspiracy, and criminal possession of a firearm, with a bond set at $500,000.

The Stamford Police Department commended the detectives for their swift and tireless work, which led to the quick resolution of these violent crimes and the apprehension of the suspects, thereby maintaining community safety.

Captain Thomas Scanlon and Lieutenant Douglas Deiso, who were involved in the investigation, have praised the efforts of their team.
