Sherborn police warn of scam involving fake insurance agent

SHERBORN — Police are warning residents about a scam artist posing as an insurance agent after a recent incident where a homeowner was approached by an individual claiming to represent “Geico Travelers Insurance.”

According to the Sherborn Police Department, last week a man wearing a high-visibility jacket and displaying what seemed to be credentials, knocked on the door of a local home, requesting to take photos of the property.

The homeowner, suspecting something was amiss, refused to allow the individual inside and asked the person to leave.

Following the suspicious visit, the homeowner contacted the police and verified with their actual insurance company that no representative had been dispatched to their residence.

Sherborn Police praised the homeowner’s actions, emphasizing the importance of not letting strangers into one’s home and verifying any unsolicited visits with the relevant companies or agencies.

Residents are encouraged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

Police also advise making a note of any unfamiliar visitors’ license plates and consider installing cameras for additional security.

The Sherborn Police Department is actively investigating the incident and asks anyone with information to come forward.
