WEST YARMOUTH — A routine check by a Yarmouth Police Officer at local hotels Tuesday afternoon led to the arrest of two individuals with outstanding warrants and the seizure of various drugs.

While surveying the area, the officer recognized a vehicle associated with drug activity and engaged with hotel staff who reported high vehicle traffic seemingly involved in drug transactions.

One such exchange was said to have occurred shortly before the police presence.

Upon confirming that the vehicle’s occupants had existing warrants, additional officers were called to the scene.

John Burns, 63, from Hyannis, was apprehended on an outstanding felony warrant.

Kelli Smith, 39, from South Yarmouth, was also taken into custody.

At the station, officers discovered $621.00 hidden in Smith’s sock and seized fentanyl, crack cocaine, and prescription pills from her possession.

Smith faces charges including Trafficking More than 10 Grams of Fentanyl, Subsequent Offense of Possession of a Class B Drug, Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug, and Possession of a Class E Drug.

She appeared in Barnstable District Court on Wednesday and is being held without bail.
