NAUGATUCK — A New York man has been extradited to Connecticut to face charges stemming from an alleged sexual assault that occurred in a Naugatuck plaza parking lot last October.
Naugatuck Police Department officials reported that on Oct. 2, they were notified of the incident, which took place at Mountview Plaza on Rubber Avenue.
The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Joseph Montalvo Jr. from Hopewell Junction, NY, allegedly met the 16-year-old victim through social media.
The two were previously unknown to each other in person.
According to the investigation, Montalvo and the victim agreed to meet.
Montalvo then refused to take the victim home, coercing her into sexual acts.
The police stated he engaged in violent sexual acts with the victim without her consent.
An arrest warrant for Montalvo was issued, and he was subsequently arrested by the East Fishkill Police Department on Jan. 15.
On Jan. 28, detectives from the Naugatuck Police took custody of Montalvo at the Dutchess County Jail and extradited him back to Connecticut.
Montalvo has been charged with first-degree sexual assault, third-degree sexual assault, and second-degree unlawful restraint.
He was held on a $250,000 bond and was arraigned at Waterbury Superior Court on the same day of his extradition.
The Naugatuck Police Department expressed gratitude to the East Fishkill Police Department for their assistance with the investigation.
