CAVENDISH — A 27-year-old Cavendish man was arrested late Saturday night after an incident that led to charges of reckless endangerment and assaulting law enforcement officers.

Vermont State Police responded to a call at a residence on Greven Rd Ext. around 9:52 p.m., where they found Jeffery Stearns allegedly intoxicated and unable to care for a 4-year-old child.

When authorities attempted to take Stearns into custody, he reportedly resisted and assaulted the troopers on the scene.

Stearns was issued a criminal citation for reckless endangerment, assault on law enforcement officers, and resisting arrest.

Following the altercation, he was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility for detoxification.

He is set to appear before the Vermont Superior Court, Windsor Criminal Division, on March 11 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charges.
