Armed robbery at a Walgreens pharmacy in Gardiner

GARDINER — A man was arrested Thursday evening following an armed robbery at a Walgreens pharmacy in Gardiner, police said.

David Knox, 36, of Gardiner, was taken into custody at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Winter Street, less than two hours after the incident was reported.

The Gardiner Police Department received a 911 call at 6:42 p.m. from a staff member at the Walgreens located at 9 Spring Street.

The employee reported an armed robbery had just occurred and the suspect had fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Officers responded to the scene within two minutes of the dispatch call.

After an extensive search and investigation, police gathered information on the potential identity and whereabouts of the suspect.

Knox was charged with robbery, a Class B felony, and transported to Kennebec County Jail.

He is currently being held on $8,000 secured bail.

The investigation is ongoing.
