Cumberland man arrested after multi-state pursuit, faces numerous charges

CUMBERLAND — A 23-year-old Cranston man was arrested Monday following a multi-state pursuit that began in Attleboro, Massachusetts, and ended in Cumberland, Rhode Island, police said.

Chance McKinney faces multiple charges, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, receiving stolen goods, and drug possession, according to Cumberland Police Chief Matthew J.

Benson. McKinney was initially wanted by Attleboro police in connection with an armed robbery.

Cumberland police apprehended him after he allegedly fled from officers and was involved in several vehicle collisions.

The suspect was arraigned before a Justice of the Peace Monday evening and is scheduled to appear in 6th District Court Tuesday for rearraignment.

At the time of the incident, McKinney was out on bail for a prior conspiracy charge from September 2024 in Providence, Benson said.

He will be presented as a bail violator at a later date.

Charges against McKinney include:

– Possession of a stolen motor vehicle, 1st offense
– Receiving stolen goods (misdemeanor)
– Possession of crack cocaine (under 10 grams)
– Obstructing an officer in the execution of duty
– Fugitive from justice
– Driving with a suspended/revoked/cancelled license
– Two counts of duty to stop in an accident resulting in damage to an attended vehicle
– Duty to stop in an accident resulting in damage to a highway fixture
– Laned roadway violations (motor vehicle citation)
– Failure to file an accident report (motor vehicle citation)
