WORCESTER — Two men were arrested late Friday night after Worcester Police officers located and stopped a stolen vehicle on Ward Street at approximately 10:25 p.m.

During the traffic stop, officers observed suspicious movements by the occupants.

The driver, identified as 24-year-old Maxwell Smith, moved to the back seat, and both men were subsequently removed from the vehicle.

A large knife was found on Smith, who claimed ignorance regarding the vehicle’s ownership.

The passenger, 31-year-old Joe Santos-Vazquez, told officers the vehicle belonged to his uncle but failed to provide further identification or address.

Upon searching Smith, officers discovered multiple bags containing what is believed to be crack cocaine and Fentanyl, with the cocaine weighing in at a trafficking amount of 40.88 grams.

The Fentanyl was individually packaged, suggesting intent for distribution.

Additionally, a bag believed to contain methamphetamine was found on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Smith now faces charges for Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Class A Substance with Intent to Distribute, Trafficking a Class B Substance 37-99 Grams, and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon.

Santos-Vazquez is charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Class B Substance.

The registered owner of the vehicle has been contacted and has retrieved the vehicle.
