MANCHESTER — On Monday, at approximately 1:18 p.m., the Manchester Police Department responded to Verplanck Elementary School after receiving reports of an individual with a rifle near the playground.
The school was quickly placed under lockdown as a precaution.
Officers arriving at the scene located the individual and determined the weapon to be an airsoft rifle.
The person was taken into custody without incident, and charges are pending.
Following the incident, additional police officers were stationed at schools throughout the city for the remainder of the day.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
